Argentine Train Drivers Announce Nationwide Strike

Buenos Aires, Feb 17 (NA) – Omar Maturano, the secretary general of the Brotherhood, the union representing train drivers, confirmed on Tuesday that during the strike called by the CGT for Thursday, “there will be no transportation” anywhere in the country, and that the reform seeks “slavery.” “They are all liars who want to lead us into slavery, and we are not going to slavery,” Maturano emphasized in statements to Splendid AM 990. The union leader assured that, as anticipated by the Argentine News Agency (NA), “a total strike without mobilization is confirmed,” since “if transportation doesn’t work, you can’t mobilize the comrades” as some unions like the UOM intend. Maturano warned: “After (the reform is approved) they will come for the Trade Union Associations Law and for another Social Security Law because they will surely be preparing a battery of laws against workers.” He added that President Javier Milei “is wrong” to promote this type of law because “his promise was to go against the caste, not against the workers,” and added: “The promise was not to issue (pesos) and he is issuing bonds, he is issuing debt.” “We have the right to protest, the right not to work, the right to strike, which the Constitution gives us,” he said and warned that with the labor reform “there will be more lawsuits than now”.
